General SMFShop Discussion / Re: SMF-RPG-Shop-II_1-0

Personally, I'm extremely glad to see SMFShop 2.3 released. My original intention was to have the RPG stuff sit on top of SMFShop. However, I quickly saw that doing so would make it virtually impossible to upgrade SMFShop without completely redoing the RPG package in order to upgrade.  The reason for the delay here is because I have.am changing the RPG code to function separately from SMFSHop The RPG package will install as a completely separate package, which doesn't rely on SMFShop for it's cash/money function but instead uses it's own. In other words, SMFShop and SMF-RPG-Shop will be able to exist independently, which btw... if I'd had any sense at all, is how it should have been done in the first place. @¿@  HEY!! thppppppppppt!  I have an excuse... I'm OLD!  LMBO

Daniel- btw - and I'm studying up on svn ;-)

Coding / Re: Is the Shop integratable?

I also agree with Basil in as much as Zarath's shop mod works, but is pretty cryptic witha large learning curve making it difficult to master. I spent many hours redoing it for my needs on phpBB, but once I finished that, coupled with Cash Mod and Vault... It made an awesome rpg setup.  I think the same thing is achievable with SMF Shop. IPB Shop is a real sweet piece of work to be sure... but in it's diaper daze, it started just like SMF Shop. It pioneered greater functionality by taking advantage of the fancy bells and whistles Microsoft wanted to corner the market with in IExplorer. I truly believe that everything IPB Shop might be today, SMF Shop can just as easily become. The architecture of it allows for just about endless Items to be added... ALL those things need, is just a creator/author.

ta-DAAA  my soapbox for today! :p

The two packages SMF and phpBB(phpNuke and other similars) are incompatible. They both provide the same results but do it in very different ways. I'd suggest you look on phpBBHacks.com for some latest info on Zarath's shop mod. It isn't a bad mod at all. Any upgrades should be easily portable to phpNuke. You might also check out the "Cash Mod" and the "Vault Mod". Both are good compliments to the Shop mod.

I probably should leave this to Daniel or Basil Beard to answer for you, but even they will need a couple of more details to be of much help. Are you wanting to sell(download) the file IN the board, or sell Access to the board? If you selling access, then I suppose you could give the user individual perms onuse() and revoke it via Display.php/Display.template.php after a download, but that could be complicated. .ooO{I think anyway}

If I might offer a suggestion; why not have the board access public with all the avaliable file "Descriptions" (no links) posted along with their credits cost so that everyone can see what great stuff you have for sale. Then the item's onuse()-->getUseInput() routine becomes a simple matter of populating a <select> from the dir containing all the files and the member simply selects the file to download. This way your transaction is handled withing the scope of the Shop without fiddling with the code in "Display.php or Display.template.php" in order to remove individual perms after the download, kapeesch?

:-) Hope it helps

Somewhere between 8-14 days from today. I still have the Admin code to complete for the "Skill/Class" && "Summons" sections.

Meh... it will be "functional". As to whether it will fit the needs of the masses... only the masses will tell.

« on: September 26, 2006, 09:42:43 pm »
I hate to bump this up... but I've just GOT to comment. :-p  What is a pet mod? You want to buy "pets"... @¿@ ... aren't there enough unwanted ones out there IRL for you to satisfy your needs... huh? But, what I really wanted to tell you guys is this... Daniel ALREADY has a pet included with the distribution of SMFShop. The first thing I bought myself was a pet "Rock". It is the sweetest thing! It just sits there... doesn't meow, bark, whimper... nothing! It's Great! SO! go buy a pet rock and stop worrying about a 'pet mod'. ;-)

Heh! don't worry... you'll be the first to see it! :-)  Since posting my first up there--^ I found a problem which I'm having to re-code for. I need a "Skill/Class" for the rp characters, and we have/need two summons types Battle/Monster. The way I was handling the items inventory, I thought, would handle those items in the inventory database. "Ack!" different animals in the Display, so I have to add a couple more tables and alter the rpgshop to manage three different stores. It's being a bit more complicated, but I still think I can accomplish the task by the end of next week... so as I get back home on Tuesday evening. Anyway, once I have it functional and relatively bug free... The SVN offer might be a great way to go. I originally thought to put it on SMF's mod section, but you know... that opens it up to where gobs of support is needed, and I just don't have the time available to do all that. If you want to host it here... man that would be great since I don't necessarily want to set up a package server either. I truly feel like this will be a great mod, but it never was really intended to be more than that for the RPG Forum I'm doing it for, ya know.

Thanks

By this time next week I should be finished with the initial release of SMF-RPG-Shop-II_1-0. It impliments SMFShop 2.2 with RPGShop 1.0 in one package. I have made some changes to Daniel's original code in SMFShop 2.2, so before you ask... it's very unlikely, unless you intend to spend large amounts of time, that you'll want to pick it apart just to add the RPG portion. As soon as I have the time I will package a version that will coexist with SMFShop in it's original code. For my personal needs which started this project, I needed the two melded, hence it comes first.

The RPG portion impliments a rpg item shop for such things as weapons, armor, skill etc. It uses a separate currency, so there are two currencies to contend with. One for SMFShop 'board-type' items, and one for 'rpg-type' items. The rpg currency is awarded at a much higher rate and is variable depending on several member rpg stats... length of membership, # of posts, length of post etc... There is a HP/MP/EXP system awarded in much the same fashion, used for text based dueling/quest -battles etc as well as Attack & Defense modifier values. There is a Character Sheet that displays all this information on each post by every member. These displays can be toggled on/off via Profile.

I can't begin to explain it all here...  :crazy2: I'll be looking for some help to Beta Test the mod.

Cool... and I'll pass that link to you... as soon as I install it on our online server. I have a box set up with Apache on my home network, plus a test installation on the net. I use it to run and test all the mods and my own stuff before going live on the RoH server. Problem is... I ain't home right now. I work in the Gulf of Mexico. I don't have access to the files until I finish this hitch and get back home to East Texas. I feel sorta back having stirred up your interest and now to leave you hanging, waiting... but I hope you'll find it was worth it. Barring any complications, I should have it up here for you by Friday my time in Texas.
