ENGLEWOOD Frostee Rucker Jersey , Colo. (AP) Vance Joseph’s college coach dropped by practice Wednesday for a friendly visit and to offer some advice.

”Just to hang in there,” the Denver Broncos coach said in recounting his meeting with University of Colorado great Bill McCartney. ”He gets it. It’s a hard profession.”

Joseph and the Broncos are mired in an eight-game skid, something the franchise hasn’t experienced in 50 years. It’s got everyone on edge, especially the boss.

Article continues below ...
General manager John Elway said on Orange and Blue 760 : ”I’m embarrassed about it, and the fact that this has happened, and will do my part to hopefully get this thing turned around next year. The expectations of Broncos fans should be for us to get this turned around. That is fair. But before we get that done, we’re going to take pride in what we do and finish this season as strong as we possibly can.”

Elway added the coaching staff will finish out the season. The players feel like they’re on notice Jared Veldheer Jersey , too.

”Not only are you playing for if you want to be in blue and orange next year, but you’re playing for 31 other teams,” running back C.J. Anderson said. ”You have to take the ups with the downs. I came in with a lot of ups. This is one of the downs of my career.”

The Broncos (3-9) haven’t won since beating Oakland on Oct. 1. That also happens to be the last time Denver didn’t turn the ball over in a game.

To play a mistake-free game again, that’s all Anderson wants when the Broncos host the New York Jets (5-7) on Sunday.

”Can we just play one clean game of football and see how it comes out?” said Anderson, who’s rushed for 652 yards this season. ”We’ve proven that if we play a clean game, we can dominate football games. We haven’t played a clean game of football in the last 60 days.”

Anderson gets fed up with the criticism of Joseph. His message to all those Madden video game players who think turning this around is easy: It’s not.

”Everybody can play Madden and go 16-0,” Anderson said. ”Everybody can pick Madden and be like Tyvon Branch Jersey , `I’m going to start with the Patriots.’ You rarely hear any people on social media starting with the Browns overall or the Bears overall. That’s how I look at it. If you think you can do what coach Joseph does, get here at 6:30 in the morning and be here until 11 at night, be my guest. Be my guest.

”We’re all sick and tired of losing.”

Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian knows he has to be way more careful with the football as he starts for a second straight week. He threw three interceptions in a 35-9 loss at Miami last Sunday. For the season, Siemian has thrown 13 interceptions and 11 TD passes. His QB rating is 72.7 – one of the worst marks in the league.

”Out of sync at times, it’s kind of how I would describe it,” Siemian said. ”The times I haven’t played well, there hasn’t been a real rhythm with me and that trickles all the way through the offense. A little bit of everything. It’s been that kind of year J. J. Nelson Jersey , it feels like.”

He’s taken some big hits, too. But he’s holding up from a physical standpoint and in the confidence department.

”I’m good. I mean, it happens,” Siemian said. ”You look around the league, see quarterbacks take their licks. I feel like I’ve taken my fair share, no doubt. It’s all on me – been reckless with the ball at times. Made some bad throws. I can own up to that. I’ve got to improve, no doubt. Hopefully A.Q. Shipley Jersey , I do.”

NOTES: The Broncos were without WR Emmanuel Sanders (ankle), NT Domata Peko (knee), QB Paxton Lynch (ankle), OG Ron Leary (back), LB Joseph Jones (Achilles) and RB Jamaal Charles (rest) for practice Wednesday. LB Todd Davis (ankle) and rookie RB De’Angelo Henderson (personal matter) were limited.

FRISCO Nick Boyle Jersey , Texas (AP) Alfred Morris struck the same defiant tone from the last time the Dallas running back was preparing to replace suspended star Ezekiel Elliott.

Roughly the same answer, too, heading into Sunday’s game at Atlanta.

”I’ve treated every single day like I have the past six years,” Morris said Friday , a day after a court rejected Elliott’s latest bid to delay a six-game suspension over alleged domestic violence. ”Nothing changes for me. It’s just, `OK Terrance West Jersey , it’s another start. OK. It’s fine.’ The ups and downs, they really didn’t matter to me.”

Article continues below ...
Early last week, Morris thought he would get his first start since 2015 in place of Elliott before a judge granted an emergency request to put the suspension on hold.

So Morris was the backup who got one carry while the NFL’s second-leading rusher had 93 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in a 28-17 win over Kansas City.

Early this week, Morris was behind Elliott again until the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York ended Elliott’s last hope to avoid missing games.

So Morris showed up Friday as the apparent starter, although the Cowboys (5-3) haven’t officially declared him as such against the Falcons. Dallas plays four games before Elliott’s next hearing Dec. 1.

”I never know when I’m going to touch the field,” said Morris Mike Wallace Jersey , who had 70 of his 116 yards rushing this season on one carry in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams. ”Sunday, I have a better idea at least how it’s going to start the game off. We’ll see how everything plays out. Of course I’m excited to get more snaps and more carries, get more opportunities to help my team win.”

Morris ran for 1,613 yards as a rookie with Washington in 2012. He was no longer the featured back for the Redskins when he chose the Cowboys in free agency last year, about two months before Elliott was drafted fourth overall and went on to lead the NFL in rushing as a rookie.

The 28-year-old Morris was a somewhat surprising choice as the backup when the season started because Darren McFadden led Dallas in rushing in 2015. That was a year after the Cowboys let 2014 rushing leader DeMarco Murray go in free agency.

McFadden was inactive the first eight games – a first for the 10th-year back who was the fourth overall pick by Oakland eight years before Elliott.

The Cowboys will now answer the question of whether they had McFadden in safe keeping while they waited for the Elliott suspension in a case that’s been weaving through the courts for two months.

”It’s one of those things of people knew eventually something was going to happen with this situation,” said McFadden Eric Weddle Jersey , who had his second 1,000-yard season two years ago. ”It happened this week. For us, we’re going to come together as a team and just go out there and ball.”

Dallas also likes seldom-used Rod Smith, who secured a spot on the roster thanks in part to special teams but could get a longer look at running back if the Cowboys try the committee approach.

Whoever’s back there, the Cowboys still have one of the NFL’s best offensive lines with three first-round picks and three-time Pro Bowl choices in left tackle Tyron Smith, center Travis Frederick and right guard Zack Martin.

Smith didn’t practice all week and is questionable against the Falcons with back and groin injuries. Chaz Green would start if Smith can’t play.

”We know as running backs what we can do Matt Judon Jersey ,” McFadden said. ”The team’s been around us. They know what we can do out there. I don’t have to say much.”

It’s all the same to Morris.

CHARLOTTE Antonio Garcia Jersey , N.C. (AP) Panthers coach Ron Rivera said there’s a learning curve for all players coming in from a different team, including offensive linemen.

Carolina left tackle Matt Kalil can attest to that.

The Panthers invested $55 million over five years this offseason in Kalil to protect quarterback Cam Newton’s blindside and keep his jersey clean. But through three games Kalil has allowed four sacks, which is tied for the most in the league among left tackles, according to Pro Football Focus.

Article continues below ...
He allowed two sacks last week in a 34-13 loss to New Orleans. One of those came when he blocked the wrong player and allowed Saints defensive end Cam Jordan to race in untouched and level quarterback Cam Newton in the red zone.

Rivera said overall Kalil has done a ”pretty good job Derek Rivers Jersey ,” but is still learning to play with his new teammates including Newton, who takes a deeper drop in the pocket than most QBs and tends to hold the ball a little longer.

But Rivera is quick to add, ”Pretty soon we’re going to run out of time, so that learning curve has to be now.”

The Panthers need Kalil at his best on Sunday when they travel to face the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

”I feel like it’s going well and I’m getting better each game Nate Solder Jersey ,” Kalil said. ”Getting back into it after having a year off so that is always an adjustment. But things are going well.”

Kalil missed nearly all of last season with a hip injury that required surgery.

He’s still trying to break old habits that he picked up while overcompensating for that injury. He’s been working closely with offensive line coach John Matsko on his fundamentals and feels like he’s making good strides.

”It’s one thing to do them in a practice but you get in the game and get tired and fatigued and you go back to your old pattern,” Kalil said. ”So I have been getting away from that and getting more comfortable. I’ve been sharpening things up and getting to a point where I am feeling comfortable again.”

Rivera doesn’t seem overly concerned about Kalil, who was a Pro Bowl selection for the Minnesota Vikings as a rookie in 2012.

”When you look at what we do offensively it puts a lot of pressure on the left tackle,” Rivera said. ”He doesn’t get a lot of help out there and once he settles in and gets comfortable I think we’re going to be fine.”

Kalil came into the season with the goal of not allowing a sack all year.

He was frustrated over allowing the sack to Jordan Devin McCourty Jersey , a play in which he simply misunderstood who he was supposed to block. He said he tried to put it behind him as quickly as possible.

”In the game you have to act like nothing happened. You can’t let **** build up,” Kalil said. ”We are human beings and stuff happens in the game. It wouldn’t be the first time an offensive lineman went the wrong way. I just have to learn from it and obviously that will probably never happen again the rest of the season.”

Carolina’s offense has struggled but it’s hardly all Kalil’s fault.

Newton is coming off right shoulder surgery and has struggled with his accuracy. He’s thrown twice as many interceptions as touchdowns.

The good news for the Panthers is it appears Kelvin Benjamin will play against the Patriots.

Benjamin injured his knee on the final play of the first quarter against the Saints and did not return. He returned to practice on Thursday and participated in all drills. Barring a setback, Rivera expects he’ll play.

However, Kalil’s older brother Stephen Gostkowski Jersey , center Ryan Kalil, remains out of practice with a neck injury. The elder Kalil has missed the last two games and has not practiced this week.

The Dallas Cowboys beat their NFC rivals the Redskins 33-19 in Washington Frostee Rucker Jersey , and the Seahawks rallied past the Texans in a shootout in late afternoon action.

Article continues below ...
Seattle rallied past Houston 41-38 on Russell Wilson’s last-minute touchdown pass, his fourth.

Deshaun Watson also threw four TD passes. That gave the Texans rookie an NFL record 19 through his first seven games. Kurt Warner had the old mark of 18 touchdown throws in his first seven games for the Rams in 1999.

In the late game, Le’Veon Bell and the Pittsburgh Steelers visit Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions.

The Week 8 finale pits the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, two teams that were riding high before losing their last two games.

7:30 p.m.

DeShaun Watson threw four more touchdown passes, giving him an NFL record 19 through his first seven career games. That’s one more than Kurt Warner had in 1999 with the then-St. Louis Rams.

But the Texans lost a shootout 41-38 to Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks, who sealed the win on Richard Sherman’s interception of Watson’s deep throw with seven seconds left.

Houston fell to 3-4 Jared Veldheer Jersey , a game behind Tennessee and Jacksonville in the AFC South. The Seahawks won their fourth straight after a 1-2 start.

6:32 p.m.

Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins says the next proposed meeting between the owners and players to discuss social justice initiatives has been canceled.

”The league didn’t accept our invitation,” Jenkins said after the Eagles win over the 49ers.

NFL players proposed to meet Monday in Philadelphia. Jenkins said the league declined, citing scheduling issues.

The league and players met last week in New York to discuss player demonstrations during the national anthem and other issues.

Jenkins, one of the founders of The Players Coalition, says owners and the players should meet to discuss alternative ways players can get their message out.

”They want to get back to football; we want to move past anthem demonstrations,” Jenkins said. ”But to do that Tyvon Branch Jersey , we need to be able to replace the platform that we have.”

5:15 p.m.

The early games are in the books and there weren’t any shutouts.

That’s notable because the NFL’s Week 8 began with the Ravens’ 40-0 whitewash of the Dolphins on Thursday night. That was the fourth shutout in a five-day span and the sixth overall this season.

There were only three shutouts all of last season and just two the year before that.

The Browns and 49ers both fell to 0-8 today. Cleveland lost 33-16 to the Vikings in the final London game of the season and the 49ers fell 33-10 to the Eagles.

Philadelphia improved to a league-best 7-1.

In other games, the Panthers beat the Buccaneers 17-3, the Patriots beat the Chargers 21-13 and the Bills walloped the Raiders 34-14The Saints beat the Bears 20-12, the Falcons edge the Jets 25-20 and the Bengals beat the Colts 24-23.

4:12 p.m.

Only 10 active Houston Texans players stood for the national anthem with the rest of the team kneeling down.

The Texans had indicated there would be some type of protest following comments by owner Bob McNair. McNair has issued two apologies and is attempting to explain his comments after a story in ESPN The Magazine this week revealed that he said ”we can’t have the inmates running the prison” during a meeting of NFL owners about players who protest by kneeling during the national anthem.

There were reports the Texans would consider staying in the locker room for the anthem, but the entire team took the field about 10 minutes before kickoff. When the anthem started more than half the active roster took a knee.

The majority of Seattle’s defensive line continued to sit as it has for most of the season.

3:10 p.m.

The Bears have lost tight end Zach Miller for the remainder of their game in New Orleans after an apparently serious knee injury on what initially was ruled a touchdown catch, and then overturned on video review.

Miller came down awkwardly on his left leg after hauling in Mitchell Trubisky’s 25-yard pass to the end zone while safety Rafael Bush dived J. J. Nelson Jersey , his arm outstretched, to try to break up the play.

Miller’s left leg hyperextended as he came down with the ball and crashed to the turf. Replay showed he bobbled the ball upon his upper body’s impact with the field, and it was ruled that the ball made contact with the ground when it briefly jarred lose in Miller’s arms.

The ruling of an incomplete pass came as Miller was carted off the field, and the Bears then concluded the drive with Connor Barth’s 44-yard field goal to trim the Saints’ lead to 14-6 late in the third quarter.

2:50 p.m.

The Buffalo Bills added running back Carlton Chester ”Cookie” Gilchrist to their Wall of Fame at halftime of their game against the Oakland Raiders today.

Gilchrist, who died in 2011 at age 75, was posthumously recognized for his Bills’ career from 1962 through 1964.

Gilchrist was the American Football League player of the year in 1962 when he rushed for 1 A.Q. Shipley Jersey ,096 yards and a league-leading 13 touchdowns. Along with quarterback Jack Kemp, he helped the Bills win their first of two AFL championships in 1964.

Gilchrist is third all-time in franchise history with 31 rushing touchdowns behind Thurman Thomas (65) and O.J. Simpson (57).

The Philadelphia Eagles want to avenge the overtime loss they sustained the last time they visited the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.

The Cowboys would like to prove they can win without running back Ezekiel Elliott and linebacker Sean Lee in the lineup.

Both NFC East teams acknowledge Sunday’s contest is a rivalry game with plenty at stake as the season turns toward the home stretch.

Article continues below ...
“I can remember back when I played here in ’99 Eric Wood Jersey , all week long it was like ‘I don’t care what else happens the rest of the year, you’ve got to beat the Cowboys,'” said Philadelphia coach Doug Pederson, who played quarterback for the Eagles for one season and went 1-1 against Dallas.

“That’s the mindset of the city.”

Eagles fans certainly will be expecting a win over the Cowboys as Philadelphia (8-1) enters the game with the best record in the NFL. Dallas (5-4) has had more peaks and valleys to this point and the Cowboys know they’re looking at another steep climb.

“It’s been a great rivalry (against the Eagles) here with the Cowboys for a long, long time Colton Schmidt Jersey ,” Dallas coach Jason Garrett said. “We certainly recognize what the challenges are on Sunday night.”

The Cowboys were riding a wave of momentum after a win over Kansas City made it three in a row, but the good vibes came to an abrupt halt with a 27-7 loss at Atlanta on Sunday.

Dallas had a setback before the game started as the clock finally ran out on Elliott’s numerous court appeals of his six-game suspension. He began serving the ban for violation of the NFL’s personal-conduct policy and reportedly left the country late last week.

Things got worse for Dallas in a hurry when Lee exited the game with a hamstring injury early in the contest. Lee has proven crucial to the Cowboys’ overall success as they dropped two games he missed earlier in the season — at home against the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers on consecutive weeks — with a similar injury.

Lee might not be able to return during Dallas’ upcoming run of three games in 12 days, including Sunday night versus the Eagles, Thanksgiving Day against the Los Angeles Chargers and the Nov. 30 contest versus the Washington Redskins.

The Cowboys have two more worrisome injuries as left tackle Tyron Smith was sidelined on Sunday with an ailing groin. His replacements gave up seven sacks. Furthermore, Dan Bailey missed his third straight game with a groin injury and fellow kicker Mike Nugent missed a 38-yard field goal attempt against the Falcons.

The Cowboys will be leaning heavily on Dak Prescott to ignite the offense despite key absences. Prescott still has plenty of quality targets as tight end Jason Witten and wide receivers Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams among others are still relatively healthy and ready to go.

Garrett expressed his confidence in Prescott’s ability to rally the offense.

“First of all Cordy Glenn Jersey , I think he’s an outstanding leader,” Garrett said. “He has a great spirit about him. He sets a great example for his teammates. He has a real even keel through success and through adversity. Those guys can look at him as a consistent figure. It’s not only guys on offense, but it’s really everybody on the football team.”

Dallas’ defense bears some responsibility in keeping the Cowboys out of an offensive free-for-all.

That won’t be easy as Philadelphia enters with the NFL’s fourth-best offense. The Eagles are averaging 377 yards and 31.4 points on the strength of quarterback Carson Wentz’s strong second season in the league. Wentz has passed for 251 yards per game with 23 touchdowns with only five interceptions.

Garrett favorably compared Wentz to Prescott, both of whom were rookies in 2016.

“Probably not unlike Dak, the more these guys play Jerry Hughes Jersey , if you go about it the right way, you’re going to learn from your experiences,” Garrett said.

Philadelphia recently upgraded its running game, trading with Miami for running back Jay Ajayi, who joins LeGarrette Blount in the backfield.

Pederson said it’s important for Philadelphia to find the same groove it was experiencing before its bye week this past week. The Eagles have come a long way from a five-game losing streak this time a year ago that tumbled them to a 7-9 finish.

But the Philadelphia coach recognizes the same habits helping to build his team throughout the last two seasons.

“You’re seeing the same work ethic today that I saw last year at this time Preston Brown Jersey ,” Pederson said. “It’s just a tribute to the guys and the messaging of the team and them buying into it and believing in it and knowing that they’re a good football team.”

PITTSBURGH (AP) The end is creeping up on Ben Roethlisberger. There have been times this season when the 35-year-old Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback looks every bit his age Matt Bryant Jersey , and plays like it, too.

Just not under the lights. Never under the lights.

For all the heaping amounts of ”blah” the NFL’s highest-paid offense has provided during a solid if somewhat unspectacular start to the season, something about playing at home at night brings out the best in Roethlisberger.

Article continues below ...
Fueled by a halftime pep talk from Roethlisberger that stressed enough was enough, a team that’s spent much of the season talking a good game but rarely playing a complete one lived up to its own considerable hype. Roethlisberger threw for 299 yards and four touchdowns , three in the second half, as the Steelers ran away from the mistake-prone Tennessee Titans 40-17 on Thursday night.

”Was it our best game? No Matt Bosher Jersey ,” Roethlisberger said after Pittsburgh (8-2) won its fifth straight. ”Was it better? Yeah.”

Much better. Roethlisberger improved to 18-3 in prime-time home games during his career and has 24 touchdowns against just two interceptions in his last seven prime-time starts at Heinz Field.

”Anytime you play with a guy like Ben in a prime-time setting, you know the playmaking ability is going to be up,” said wide receiver Antonio Brown, who caught 10 passes for 144 yards and three scores. ”You know the splash plays are going to be there and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

A matchup that looked like it could go either way after Marcus Mariota hit Rishard Matthews for a 75-yard touchdown on the first play of the second half drew the Titans within 16-14, the Steelers responded with touchdowns on three consecutive drives.

The red zone issues that have dogged them for long stretches vanished. Working out of the no-huddle extensively, Roethlisberger picked apart Tennessee over the final two quarters Ricardo Allen Jersey , completing 20 of 23 passes for 185 yards and three scores in the second half to win going away.

”It did feel great today to show what we’re capable of and put up 40 points,” said Brown. ”That was a pretty good feeling.”

One that played in stark contrast to the sometimes angsty locker room in recent weeks as the Steelers stacked unimpressive win after unimpressive win. It’s not that they were complaining about their success, it’s just that they’re well aware it was nowhere near the standard they’ve set.

Consider their dominant second-half a massive step closer.

”We’re a hungry group that still has a lot to prove,” defensive end Cam Heyward said. ”We’re chasing ghosts.”

Tennessee’s shot at its first five-game winning streak since 2009 ended under a cascade of sacks and interceptions . Quarterback Marcus Mariota threw for a touchdown and ran for another but was also picked off a career-high four times as the Titans (6-4) fell a half-game behind Jacksonville in the AFC South.

”If you throw four interceptions, it’s tough to win,” Mariota said.

Not that Mariota had a ton of time. He was sacked five times and spent the majority of the second half under heavy duress. The Titans also lost a chance to get back within two points in the third quarter when usually reliable tight end Delanie Walker dropped a potential touchdown pass. Tennessee settled for a field goal to pull within 23-17 and never scored again.

”We had opportunities to make it more of a game and we just failed to do so Ryan Schraeder Jersey ,” Titans coach Mike Mularkey said. ”The dam kind of broke in the second half because of all of the mistakes.”

Brown’s second career three-touchdown game highlighted the unique skills that made him the fastest player in NFL history to reach 700 receptions.

He leapt between two defenders in the first quarter to haul in a 41-yard rainbow from Roethlisberger. In the third he dropped a difficult pass between two Titans in the end zone but atoned minutes later when he jumped to pull in a 5-yard score.

Brown’s best grab of the night and probably the season came in the fourth quarter when he briefly pinned a Roethlisberger pass to his helmet before securing it for a 10-yard touchdown that put the game out of reach.

Rookie teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster dropped to his knees to bow to Brown, even though the sight of Brown making the unlikely likely has become commonplace.

”Greatness,” Martavis Bryant said of Brown. ”I mean, 84 is going to be 84 regardless of who he is going against or what he’s doing. He handles himself like that. He carries himself like that. He had a great game.”

Roethlisberger borrowed a line from a popular Bud Light beer commercial when microphones caught him yelling “Dilly Dilly” during his pre-snap cadence. The offensive line adopted the phrase in recent weeks, and Roethlisberger opted to try it out as his answer to Peyton Manning’s famous ”Omaha” call.

Titans: Visit Indianapolis on Nov. 26. Tennessee beat the Colts 36-22 on Oct. 16 to start the four-game streak that ended at Heinz Field.

Steelers: Welcome the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 26 Andy Levitre Jersey , the second of four straight prime-time games.

BEREA Frostee Rucker Jersey , Ohio (AP) Hue Jackson might want to borrow DeShone Kizer’s flak jacket.

Cleveland’s coach is willingly taking some big hits for his rookie quarterback.

One day after a calamitous goal-line situation at the end of the first half cost the Browns points – and maybe their first win – in a 38-24 loss to the Detroit Lions, Jackson again refused to discuss details of the sequence or lay blame on anyone but himself.

Article continues below ...
”I take responsibility for it,” Jackson said. ”It is on me. It is not on DeShone. It is not on the offensive unit. I coach the offensive unit. I coach the quarterback. As I said yesterday, I am not going to back off that. Totally on me. Not on him. Whatever we think he should have done or could have done stems from my teaching of him. I take full responsibility for it.”

Fair enough, coach. So what did you not teach Kizer?

”I do not want to get into that,” he said. ”Next question.”

While Jackson’s gesture to protect Kizer may be noble as he fights to save his job after going 1-24 in two seasons, it doesn’t explain why the Browns (0-9) botched a chance to cut into Detroit’s 17-10 late in the second quarter.

With the Browns at the Detroit 2-yard line with 15 seconds left and out of timeouts, Kizer tried a sneak but was stopped well short of the goal line. The Browns rushed to run another play Jared Veldheer Jersey , but failed to line up in time – the Lions did all they could to prevent Kizer and lineman Shon Coleman from getting up – before the clock expired.

The gaffe was costly and perhaps symbolized Cleveland’s winless season better than any other play.

Following the game, guard Joel Bitonio and tight end Seth DeValve both said Kizer called an audible, changing the play from whatever Jackson had called to a daring attempt to score on his own with little margin for error.

Because they’re the Browns, everything went wrong.

Jackson, though, insists he is the one who should take the heat.

”I can’t put our guys in that spot,” he said. ”I know a lot of people feel like that is the reason why we lost the game. I do not feel that at all. It was an opportunity to score more points, but it is not the reason we lost the game. … I get it. I know everybody is fuming about it Tyvon Branch Jersey , and I am, too. I am kicking myself many times about it. Our guys responded, and we had our chances. We just have to do more.

”I have to do a better job of coaching. It is just that simple. I do not want to get into what I am going to do. None of that matters. Yesterday we made a mistake. We owned it. I owned it. Does not matter. I will get better and do better. Whatever you guys want to write or say, that is what it will be. We will get it better.”

Except for the second-quarter blunder, Kizer had his most efficient game this season, completing 21 of 37 passes for 232 yards with one touchdown and a late interception.

But until the Browns win, the audible is what will be remembered. Like his coach, Kizer refused to address what went wrong.

”It is not a blame thing. It is not an audible thing J. J. Nelson Jersey ,” said Kizer, who has had other issues near the end zone. ”It is just about being better down there. As the quarterback of this team, it is my job when we get that low in the red zone to make sure that the play ends in points. Unfortunately, with the timing situation, that drive didn’t.”

Kizer also displayed toughness by returning after taking a shot to the ribs in the third quarter. X-rays were negative and other than some soreness, the 21-year-old said he’s fine.

On the play he got hit, Browns rookie tight end David Njoku failed to pick up cornerback Quandre Diggs, who delivered a textbook shot on the QB.

Njoku took responsibility for not protecting Kizer.

”I don’t feel good about it A.Q. Shipley Jersey ,” he said. ”I kind of wanted to fight him (Diggs) on the field, but that’s emotions. That’s one of my close friends and teammate, and I got him hit. So I’ve got to make up for it next week.”

NOTES: LB Jamie Collins will miss the remainder of the season with a torn knee ligament suffered on an interception return Sunday. … Jackson said RT Shon Coleman remains in concussion protocol. … Jackson praised LT Spencer Drango’s performance. He made his second start in place of Pro Bowler Joe Thomas, who underwent season-ending triceps surgery.

ORCHARD PARK Eric Wood Jersey , N.Y. (AP) Kyle Williams might have underestimated his value to the Buffalo Bills when suggesting anyone – including him – can be replaced after fellow defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was traded to Jacksonville.

With all due respect to Williams, no one from coach Sean McDermott on down to backup lineman Jerel Worthy shares the 12-year veteran’s opinion.

Dareus might have been a highly prized first-round draft pick, two-time Pro Bowl selection and the Bills’ top-paid player. Williams, however, is discovering he is held in much higher regard as both an on- and off-field leader.

”That’s a whole `nother conversation,” McDermott said, his voice cracking with emotion in putting Williams well ahead of Dareus. ”(Williams) has put a lot of time into this organization, a lot of blood sweat and tears. And I know what that means to me.”

Worthy required no prompting in making a point to mention Williams when asked how the Bills move on without Dareus.

”As far as talent-wise, you can’t really replace (Dareus) Colton Schmidt Jersey ,” Worthy said. ”But as far as trying to pick up where we left off, it’s been a collective group effort all year. We just rely on our leader. Our leader is Kyle.”

The Bills (5-2), who play at the New York Jets (3-5) on Thursday night, have quickly turned the page since Dareus was traded Friday in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick.

The defense didn’t miss a beat without him by forcing a season-high four turnovers and limiting Oakland to 54 yards rushing in 34-14 win on Sunday. Williams led the line in playing 47 of 65 defensive snaps, with Adolphus Washington credited with three tackles and a pass-defensed while starting in place of Dareus.

”It’s the next man up mentality,” linebacker Preston Brown said, before mentioning Williams in the next breath. ”Having a guy like Kyle in that room, it doesn’t matter who’s going to play. They’re going to make sure they step up.”

The Bills have become accustomed to overcoming the abrupt loss of key players in getting off to their best start to a season since 1993. The resolve they’ve shown dates to August, when receiver Sammy Watkins and cornerback Ronald Darby were traded in separate deals Cordy Glenn Jersey , and receiver Anquan Boldin retired a week later.

Buffalo beat Oakland despite having three defensive starters sidelined by injuries. Rookie linebacker Matt Milano, starting in place of linebacker Ramon Humber, returned a fumble for a touchdown and forced a fumble to set up a field goal.

The team’s unflinching approach in dealing with adversity was the point Williams was making Sunday, by saying: ”We can do it without any of us. That’s the great thing about us. We’re a team.”

Pressed further, Williams said that included him.

”Why not?” he said. ”If I go down, somebody steps up.”

On Tuesday, Williams said he’ll miss Dareus, whom he spent mentoring over the past seven years, but the team must move on.

”We have such great group of guys in here that we can survive Jerry Hughes Jersey ,” he said.

Dareus became the odd-man out because of a combination of off-field transgressions – he was suspended twice for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy – and a six-year, $96 million contract that failed to reflect his dwindling role under a new coaching staff.

McDermott prefers rotating his defensive linemen on and off the field to keep them fresh. The rotation combined with a series of nagging injuries led to Dareus playing less 40 percent of the defensive snaps over six games.

He further fell out of favor in August, when the Bills ordered Dareus to travel home on his own for breaking a team rule a few hours before a preseason game at Baltimore.

Unlike Dareus, Williams’ motives have never been questioned – unless it’s someone disputing his value to the Bills, of course.

Washington described Williams’ presence as being so influential that he doesn’t want to disappoint his teammate.

”You have to go out there and match his intensity, match his production, match everything. Kyle is our sparkplug,” Washington said. ”I don’t want to say it’s a fear, but it’s a burden of not letting Kyle down.”

NOTES: Newly acquired WR Kelvin Benjamin passed his physical a day after Buffalo acquired him in a trade with Carolina. Benjamin was assigned No. 13 Preston Brown Jersey , which he wore in Carolina, though it’s unclear whether he’ll play Thursday. … Starting CB E.J. Gaines (hamstring) has been ruled out. … Humber (broken right thumb), who has missed three games, and S Jordan Poyer (right knee), who has missed one game, are listed as questionable.
