Are you migrating the whole forum and database over? If so, it should work fine (in fact, this site was migrated onto a new server about a week ago).
Basically, get a backup of all the forum files, and also get a backup of the database. On the new server, restore the backups, use
repair_settings.php to change the database username and password to the new one (as well as fix directory paths if needed), and everything should work fine.
