"User does not exist"

I am having an odd problem with the shop mod, there is but a single user whose inventory I cannot edit. When I go to the admin pane; --> edit a member's inventory --> user: 'dan the man' I get the following message:

Edit A Member's Inventory
ERROR: The member you typed ('dan the man') doesn't exist!

He most certainly does. Can anyone help?

PS. Oh, and he also couldn't change his name using an item he'd bought at the shop.

Could it be that he already changed his name, and thus was trying to use his username instead of membername?

Are you sure that's his username? Check the forum database in phpMyAdmin (specifically, the smf_members table), and see what his username is stored as (do a search for 'dan the man')
